Scout Community Week launches
19/10/2011
Scouting’s biggest community and fundraising project in decades will take place next
May.
Up to 40,000 Scouts are expected to take part in Scout Community Week between 14 and 20 May 2012.
This volunteering and fundraising initiative will inspire Scouts to perform local tasks on a scale not seen since Scout Job Week ceased 20 years ago.
Scout Community Week will also provide an opportunity to raise funds for local Scouting. The public will be able to donate online, by text and by bank transfer.
Improve your CV
Scout Steffi, who took part in the pilot scheme for Scout Community Week, said, ‘I really felt like I was making a difference in helping build a garden for my local hospital. It’s also great to put the voluntary work down on my CV.’
Scout leaders can sign up to take part while the public is encouraged to nominate a project that needs our help.
B&Q is supporting Scout Community Week through a number of different initiatives.
The company is committed to raising the profile of young people and encouraging them
to play an active role in their communities.
Report hails Scouting impact
The announcement of Scout Community Week coincides with the unveiling of a report which proves that the impact of Scouting reaches far beyond the Scout hut.
The Public and Corporate Economic Consultants findings reveal that 38 per cent of our youth members already volunteer for a charity other than Scouting.
The executive summary and full report of the Impact Assessment is available on request from 21 October. Email the Fundraising team to find out more.
Volunteer support
Chief Scout Bear Grylls said, ‘Volunteering is at the very heart of Scouting. All Scouts promise to help other people and there is no better way of showing this than getting involved in your community.
‘I hope that as many Scout Groups as possible will get inspired in this celebration of their own community next May.’
